Conclusion of the First International Masters Regatta
The 1st International Masters Regatta was concluded successfully today at the Shing Mun River Regatta Course today (17th April) attracted over 250 masters rowers from 12 local rowing clubs and 7 overseas teams to take part.
To encourage and promote rowing as the life-long sport, the Hong Kong, China Rowing (HKCRA) organized the first International Masters Rowing Regatta for those rowers who attains the age of 27 or above and the race distance is only 1000m. Masters rowing events are divided into 11 categories ranging from A to K for the minimum age 27 years in category A to average age 80 years or more in category K.
This year, we have the participants from China and Singapore and the oldest male rower in this Regatta is from Royal Hong Kong Yatch Club, Mr Ian BROWNLEE who is now age 67 and took part in Men’s Maters Doubles event (Category F). While the oldest female rower is Ms WANG Yi Ren from Deep Dive Rowing Club (China’s Rowing Club) who is age 58 and had took part in Women’s Master Single event (Category E).
Rowing is an accessible and inclusive sport that provides opportunities for enjoyment and achievements at all levels, no matter your age, your physical ability and gender. The HKCRA wishes to introduce the masters regatta enabling people from all age to take rowing as their regular sport activity especially for those already retired and not want to train elite level.
The HKCRA takes this opportunity to wish all master rowers enjoy the event and will continue to provide a platform for the rowers to have life-long involvement in the sport of rowing.
This Regatta is subvented by the Arts and Sports Development Fund of Home Affairs Bureau and supported by the Leisure and Cultural Service Department.
