Notice of Annual Coaches Meeting and Coach Awards Nomination 2024-2025

The Annual Coaches Meeting 2024-2025 will be held at the Jockey Club Shatin Rowing Centre on 23rd March 2025, aiming to strengthen communication and foster exchanges among rowing coaches.

This year’s awards ceremony recognizes coaches who have demonstrated exceptional performance during 2024-2025, acknowledging their professional coaching services to our Association, affiliated clubs, and rowing athletes.

We cordially invite all affiliated club members to submit nominations for:
• Best Club Development Coach of the Year
• Outstanding Local Coach of the Year (Rowing Association)

World Rowing/HKCRA Level 1 Coaching Course (WRL1CC) – April-May 2025

The Hong Kong, China Rowing Association (HKCRA) Coaching Committee is pleased to announce the World Rowing Level 1 Coaching Course (WRL1CC) as part of our Coach Development Programme.

 Following the success of the World Rowing Coastal Race Module Course (CRM) last year, we are excited to host this new course, scheduled for April to May 2025. This course will focus on classic (flat-water) rowing, and participants who successfully complete the course will be awarded the World Rowing Level 1 certification. Additionally, participants will be recognized as HKCRA Level 1 Coaches.

Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must meet ALL of the following requirements:

  • Be 18 years of age or above (born on or before January 1, 2007)
  • Be an HKCRA Member
  • Hold a valid HKSAR Identity Card
  • Be physically fit and able to swim
  • Demonstrate good spoken and written English communication skills
  • Be able to paddle a single scull (basic level only)

2024-25 Practical Weekend Workshop  I: Beach Sprint

To facilitate preparations for the 2024 Hong Kong Beach Sprint Championships, scheduled to be held in Mui Wo on December 14-15, the HKCRA will collaborate with World Rowing to organize a series of training activities. One of these activities is the “2024-25 Practical Weekend Workshop I: Beach Sprint,” which will be led by Mr. Chris Perry, the Lead Development Expert for Asia, along with other coaches.

The workshop is designed to encompass both theoretical and practical sessions, ensuring that coaches acquire substantial hands-on experience in beach sprint racing.

2024.09.28 Indoor Rowing Instructor Course

Hong Kong, China Rowing Association (HKCRA) will be organizing an “Indoor Rowing Instructor Course” between September 2024 and March 2025. This course is suitable for those interested in becoming indoor rowing instructor or individuals who need to renew their qualification.

Technical Training for Coaches: Coach Educator Course Announcement and Call for Application

The Hong Kong, China Rowing Association (HKCRA) is pleased to announce a Technical Training for Coaches event, organized by World Rowing, to be held in Hong Kong. This training aims to develop potential Coach Educators (CE) who will deliver World Rowing’s coach education materials in Classic, Coastal, and Para rowing disciplines. CEs will also assist with training camps and other development activities in Asia and other regions.

(1) Course Details:

Date    : 6 – 14 October 2024

Venue    : YMCA Wu Kwai Sha Youth Village

Instructors   : Ms. Rosie Mayglothling, Head of Coach Education & Chair of World Rowing   Competitive Commission

(2) Eligibility Criteria:  To be eligible for this training, coaches must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be an active HKCRA registered coach with a valid Hong Kong identity card;
  2. Possess good physical health and swimming ability;

iii.   Demonstrate fluency in English and excellent teaching and communication skills;

  1. Have successfully completed and passed the online self-learning modules and pre-course certifications; and
  2. Be able to attend and complete the full duration of the Coach Educator Course which is a full-time, camp-based training;
  3. Upon successful completion and qualification as a Coach Educator, be willing to support World Rowing’s development activities in the Asian region throughout the next Olympic cycle.

(3) Application Process:

Two openings are available for Hong Kong (one male and one female). Interested coaches are invited to submit their applications by email to rowingcourse@rowing.org.hk by 31 August 2024 before 12noon HKT. Applications should include (late applications will NOT be considered):

  • A statement outlining your reasons for participating in this course;
  • A brief resume detailing your coaching experience; and
  • Necessary supporting documents.

We are excited to announce a series of educational activities in preparation for the 2024 Hong Kong Beach Sprint Championships on 14th -15th December 2024 at Mui Wo. In conjunction with World Rowing, HKCRA is offering the following opportunities:

1. Zoom Seminar
Date : 17thJuly, 2024, Wednesday
Time : 7:30 PM – 9:00 PM
Presenter : Mr. Chris Perry, World Rowing Development Lead Expert
Language: English

**This online seminar will provide an introduction to the Beach Sprint discipline and an overview of related World
Rowing development, coach education, and National Technical Official (NTO) Education. Enrolment is open to all
HKCRA members.

2. Practical Weekend Workshop
Date : 5th – 6th October, 2024, Saturday & Sunday
Location : Mui Wo and Wu Kai Sha
This face-to-face Workshop will cover the following topics:

  • Introduction to Beach Sprint Competition and Training
  • Setting up a beach sprint course and organising races
  • Safe management of water training sessions  Updated 2024 Rules of Racing for Beach Sprint
  • Launching, landing, capsize, and rescue drills
  • Coastal race techniques

**Participants should be in good health, capable of swimming 50m in light clothing and floating without assistance
for three minutes.

3. World Rowing Certification Opportunities
Following the above seminars, a limited number of spots are available for the World Rowing Coastal Race Module
and/or Level 1 Coastal Coaches Course. Prerequisites include participation in the preceding Zoom and Practical
Weekend Workshop, as well as completion of self-learning and certification requirements that will be outlined in
the Zoom Seminar.

If demand exceeds capacity, priority will be given based on relevant experience, current rowing activity, club distribution, and gender balance. We encourage all
HKCRA members to take advantage of these valuable learning opportunities as we prepare for the exciting
inclusion of Beach Sprint events at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

The Annual Coaches Conference cum Annual Coaches Awards Presentation Ceremony 2023-2024

The Annual Coaches Conference cum Annual Coaches Awards Presentation Ceremony 2023-2024 will be held on 31 March, 2024 (Sunday). The Annual Coaches Conference is part of the coaching education programme and therefore all the coaches are requested to attend.

The ‘Annual Coaches Awards’ will be held on 31 March 2024.This Annual Awards aims to recognize those excellent coaches who have contributed their professional attitude and efforts to HKCRA, clubs and club members.
