Jackie Chan Challenge Cup Hong Kong Universities Rowing Championships 2021
Fearless of Wind and Rain, the Championships Concluded Successfully!
The Jackie Chan Challenge Cup Hong Kong Universities Rowing Championships 2021, organized by the 27th Hong Kong Universities Rowing Championships Organizing Committee (HKURC), co-organized by Hong Kong, China Rowing Association (HKCRA) and sponsored by the Jackie Chan Charitable Foundation was concluded successfully on 14-15 August at Shing Mun Regatta Course, Sha Tin. Although the Championships in 2020 was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was successfully held this year despite all difficulties! Rowers coming from 8 tertiary institutions would finally gather again, and sent their most competitive crews to take part and acquired for the best results in this annual competition.
The races were as fierce as ever, despite some of them were temporarily postponed due to heavy rain and inclement weather. The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) regained the Overall Champion this year from the Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), by winning the Men’s and Women’s Overall Champions. The first runner-up went to The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), while the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and the University of Hong Kong (HKU) shared the second runners-up of the Overall Champion with the same scores.
CHIU Hin Chun, representative of the Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) and Hong Kong Rowing Team, dominated in the Men’s Single Sculls, was one of the spots of the Championships. While CHEUNG Hoi Lam, representative of PolyU and Hong Kong Rowing Team, won the Women’s Single Sculls.
Regardless of the results, “Friendship First, Competition Second “, the HKCRA would like to congratulate all tertiary institutes’ crews as they had contributed and dedicated a lot in the past few months and had fully reflected the team spirit in the sport of rowing.
This Championships is an annual major event for the rowers from different tertiary institutions of Hong Kong. The representatives of HKURC are students who came from the eight tertiary institutes. From planning to organizing the event, all the representatives had fully contributed. It demonstrated the spirit of the HKCRA – PASSION TO GO BEYOND, and showed the defiant attitude that refutes the right to give anything less than the best of one’s strengths and abilities, a commitment to explore personal and collective potential. Through this Championships, the HKCRA would sincerely wish to encourage all the tertiary institutions in Hong Kong would further expand their own rowing teams and provide a platform for the youngsters to compete and share the journey of rising up to every challenge and thereby building lifelong friendships.
Once again, we congratulate to the crews, the coaching teams and the Organizing Committees to make the sport of rowing continue success.
