Chan Chi Fung Earns 3rd Place, His Second World Competition Award
The 2021 World Rowing Virtual Indoor Sprint organized by Concept2 and World Rowing, took place between March 10-14, 2021. The competitions were divided into Men’s & Women’s Heavyweight, Lightweight, all Age groups and Adaptive categories. It attracted a total of 5270 rowers hailed from 63 countries and regions to compete for a 1000m race.
Hong Kong Rowing Team athlete CHAN Chi Fung, Thomas, captured 3rd place in Lightweight Men’s 19-29 race with 3:03.8, tied with French rower Adrien DECRIEM. His result also ranked 8th among the 646 men’s lightweight rowers of all age groups.
Thomas won 2nd place in 2021 World Rowing Indoor Championships for U23 Lightweight Men 2000m in last month, his first world competition award of his athlete’s career. “I intend to take the challenge without affecting my training, so I decided to participate in the competition on Sunday, March 14, which was my rest day. I am very happy to win a bronze medal in the Lightweight Men’s 19-29 competition, this is the second world competition awards in my career as an athlete, and it means a lot to me! It helps me to strengthen my confidence, and prepare for the Asia and Oceania Continental Olympic Qualification Regatta in May.”
