44th Hong Kong Rowing Championships Concluded Successfully CHIU Won Three Trophies Targeting Asian Championships
The 44th Hong Kong Rowing Championships was completed at the Jockey Club Shek Mun Rowing Centre this afternoon after two consecutive days of excitement. The Championships attracted around 400 overseas and local rowers to attend and were dominated by Hong Kong Rowing Team representative Chiu Hin Chun who won three trophies in these two days.
After clinching the International Small Boat Championship Men’s Open Single Sculls in Day 1, Chiu continued his domination in Open Men’s Single Sculls with result of 7:23.64, and was awarded the “The Directors’ Challenge Cup”. “I’m thrilled to participate 3 events in this Championships. Competing in such a compact schedule forced me to better condition myself, which would benefit my preparation for the coming Asian Rowing Championships.” he said.
Chiu also teamed up with Lam San Tung, Chan Yuk Man and Ho Yu Hin Nathan in Open Men’s Quadruple Sculls, finishing 1st with a record of 6:36.56. Chiu added “Although I might need some time to get used to Single Sculls after practising months on the doubles, I have great confidence in my coming performance in the Asian Championships.”
For the newly added 2,000m distanced International Small Boat Championship, Hong Kong Rowing Team Athlete Hung Wing Yan Winne captured gold in Women’s Single Sculls with the time of 8:07.07. Winne shared her satisfaction with the time achieved and would aim to perform her best in the Asian Championships.
