Hong Kong Rowing Team Triumphs at 2023 Australian Rowing Championships with Three Gold Medals
Hong Kong rowing team competed in the 2023 Australian Rowing Championships held at Champion Lakes in Perth, Australia from 27 March to 2 April 2023. Team HK entered a total of 15 men and 11 women who competed in single, double, and quadruple sculls events in both open and youth categories. In addition, Hong Kong sent para-rowers Lau Siu Tsun and Ip Ka Yee to compete in the men’s and women’s 2000m single sculls and mixed double sculls events.
The competition was seen as a prelude to the Asian Para Games later in the year and attracted elite rowers from around the world. Chan Tik Lun and Ho Siu Wing won the men’s lightweight double sculls event with a lead of over six seconds. Para-rower Ip Ka Yee took gold in both PR1 women’s single sculls and PR2 mixed double sculls events partnering with Lau Siu Tsun.
This was the first international competition for the two para-rowers, and their coach, Yau Tsz Fung, was pleased with their performance and hoped that they could continue to improve through international exposure.
For the senior team, our Hong Kong team member Chan Tik Lun partnered with Ho Siu Wing for the first time and won the gold medal in the men’s lightweight double sculls event, providing a boost of confidence for the major competition at the end of the year.
Congratulates all the medallists and wish all the athletes continued success in future competitions, encouraging all rowers to strive for even greater achievements.
