Hong Kong Successfully Bid to Host for the 2018 Asian Rowing Coastal Championships
The Hong Kong, China Rowing Association (HKCRA) announced that the Asian Rowing Federation (ARF) confirmed Hong Kong was offered the hosting right of the 2018 Asian Rowing Coastal Championships (ARCC) in the ARF annual Congress held on 6 September 2017 in Pattaya, Thailand. The 2018 ARCC is planned to organize in September next year at the Victoria Harbour. The HKCRA also indicated that Hong Kong has also submitted the bidding proposal for hosting the 2019 World Rowing Coastal Championships (WRCC), aiming to encourage the citizens and overseas teams to experience the beautiful scene of our Victoria Harbour, the extensive coastline as well as the excitements of reaching the beaches, bays and islands around Hong Kong.
The HKCRA expressed that through the coordination with different stakeholders, the ARCC can successfully be organized in order to showcase the beautiful harbor in the Asia sport arena and present the waterfront of Hong Kong. Hence, the HKCRA is now actively promote the coastal rowing activities. One of the events was the Harbour Regatta which was organized in March this year had attracted over 14 secondary schools, universities, community sports Clubs etc with more than 200 participants. Meanwhile, we are also going to apply funding from the government to organize coastal rowing courses in its Jockey Club Shek Mun Rowing Centre so as to attract more people to take part and enjoy the fun of coastal rowing. On the other hand, we will assist to organize the Around The Island Race (ATIR) in November 2017, which already attracted different renowned rowers, including the Rowing Olympian from Great Britain, Gold Medalist in the World Coastal Rowing Championships, the Cross Atlantic World Record Holder to come and join. If Hong Kong is awarded with the hosting right for the 2019 WRCC, it will definitely bring the synergy in the rowing community and can proof that Hong Kong has the capability to organize more international sports events that also help to promote the sport of rowing to the world level.
We sincere expected that through the series of promotional activities and international competitions, it can evaluate the community’s awareness to the sport of rowing, encourage the community involvement as well as present the uniqueness of Hong Kong to the world.
