To encourage and promote rowing as the life-long sport, the Hong Kong, China Rowing Association (HKCRA) organized the International Masters Rowing Regatta for consecutive three years. Masters rowing events are divided into 6 categories ranging from A to F for the minimum age 27 years in category A to average age 60 years or more in category F. The race targets for those rowers who attains the age of 27 or above and the race distance is only 1000m.
This year, we have the oldest male rower from Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club (RHKYC), Mr BROWNLEE Ian Thomas who is aged 68 (Category F). The oldest female rower is Ms CHEUNG Suk Mei Carmen, from Deaf Power who is aged 51 (Category D). After the intensive races, RHKYC is the big winner and won 15 gold medals in overall! Some ex-Hong Kong Rowers, SO Sau Wah and CHOW Kong Wing also actively took part in rowing and won the Gold medals in the Men’s Masters A Double Sculls.
Rowing is an accessible and inclusive sport that provides opportunities for enjoyment and achievements at all levels, no matters your age, your physical ability and gender. The HKCRA wishes to introduce the masters regatta enabling people from all ages to take rowing as their regular sport activity especially for those people who already retired and want to maintain their regular aerobic training and to take part challenging activities.
We take this opportunity to wish all masters rowers enjoyed the event and will continue to provide a platform for the rowers to have life-long involvement in the sport of rowing.
Last but not least, the HKCRA would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Mentholatum and SALONPAS for their generous sponsorships as well as the participants to the event.
This Regatta is organized by the HKCRA, subvented by the Home Affairs Bureau (Arts & Sport Development Fund), and concluded successfully at the Shing Mun River Regatta Course on 22 April 2018 with 6 overseas teams and 8 local teams to take part.
