Tolo-Harbour Regatta Enjoy the Fun in the sea!
As one of the step up events heading to the 2018 Asian Rowing Coastal Championships and 2019 World Rowing Coastal Championships in Hong Kong, all the rowers enjoyed very much the coastal rowing regatta organized in the Tolo-Harbour at Wu Kai Sai today on 25 February.
The regatta consisted of Open and Junior categories and a total of five events attracted 15 rowing clubs to take part. The 115 participants competed on a 3.8km racing course started from To Tau Wan Village and rowing around Centre Island and back to the finish feed at the beach. Although the weather was cloudy in the early morning, sunshine came out when the race started with challenges and new experiences to all coastal rowers. The highlights of the event were the participation of HO Kim Fai, Gold Medalist in 1993, the first East Asian Games in rowing who paired up with LAU Ching Man, Silver Medalist in 2009 East Asian Games while the current squad member, HUI Wing Ki paired up with a rower from Chinese University of Hong Kong to row in Women’s Doubles Sculls. They captured Silver and Gold Medal respectively in same event. While, two ex-Olympians CHOW Kong Wing and SO Sau Wah still keen on rowing after retirement from the Hong Kong Rowing Team and took part in the Men’s Doubles Sculls and captured Gold Medal that proves rowing, especially coastal rowing can be a life-long sport for everyone.
Surrounded by the sea and sand, competitors and supporters can enjoy rowing on the sea and experience the excitement and joyful moments brought by Water Sports. The regatta concluded with a medal presentation at the late afternoon with sun shining over a lot of smiling faces.
